GPS

I am a gadget man. I don't have much in terms of jewelry, virtually none in fact.
I don't have a fancy house or wear fancy clothes (except Sunday). But I do have a lot of gadgets.

I bought a new GPS unit. A GPS unit is a Global Positioning System receiver.
The GPS system was developed by the military to guide missiles to their targets and other military things.
It's the system that allows you to determine exactly where you are anywhere on earth. GPS allows cars with built-in navigation systems to direct you to where you are going.

This unit, a Garmin GPSV, sits on the dash of the car. I loaded the detailed map of Atlanta and was ready for the unit to tell me how to get anywhere in the city that I wanted to go.

I tested it with places where I knew where I was going.
It directed me there perfectly. Telling me in advance which way to turn and how far I had to go before the next turn.

My confidence grew in the GPSV and its ability to lead me where I wanted to go. A couple of things that the manual didn't tell me were quickly answered by tech support and I was now navigating with ease.

This makes it easy as I travel. I can download the map of the city that I am going to before I leave. When I get there and rent a car, I just put the unit on the dash, program where I am going, and let it tell me how to get there.

Today, my wife asked me to drive her to the doctor. She is 7 months pregnant and wanted me to drive her. I told her OK.

The appointment was at 10am and she asked me to come home by 9:15.
I had an early morning meeting and left the meeting in time to arrive home in ample time.

The doctor had moved since my wife last saw him. She had a general idea where to go and had even printed out computer directions from a mapping service on the Internet.

I entered the address into GPSV and punched "Go To."

"Are you sure that thing works?" my wife asked.

"Yes, I'm sure it will take us straight there," I replied.

"My computer directions say we will get there in 30 minutes and I don't want to be late," my wife commented.
It was 9:25 as we were leaving. The computer directions would have us there by 9:55 if there were no traffic snarls.

"This will get us there, Puddin," I said as we drove away and the GPSV locked on the satellites.

We got to the expressway, the GPSV said to go West, Puddin's computer sheet said to go East.

Puddin raised a concerned eyebrow as I headed West; the arrow on the GPSV was steadily pointing West. It took us to a back road.
Puddin sat up with a furrowed brow.

"I've never been this way before! This doesn't look right! I am going to be late!" she exclaimed.

I hadn't been that way before either. The path did look unfamiliar and somewhat suspect.

The GPSV twisted and turned as it took us through a labyrinth of roads. Puddin got increasingly anxious.

"Didn't you want me to drive you?" I asked.

"Yes, but it looks like that thing doesn't know where it's going and I think we are going in circles," she said.

"Sit back and relax, not only will you get there, but you will get there early. This is a lesson in life. It is a little thing. Worry won't help. You don't have to drive, just relax,
I will get you there," I said.

Puddin was sitting straight up. She and a 7-month-old baby in the womb were on edge. I stopped the Jeep.

"Lean the seat back and relax," I said.

"I don't want to lean back, I don't want to relax, and we are going to be late."

"If you don't lean the seat back, I will pull the Jeep into that parking lot and not move until you lean back and relax," I insisted.

Reluctantly, under the threat of not moving at all, Puddin leaned the seat back.

"Now close your eyes."

"I don't want to close my eyes."

"Eyes closed or parking lot," I said.

We pulled into the parking lot of the doctor's building at 9:42am, 13 minutes ahead and almost twice as fast as the computer's directions. The little GPSV accurately led us the shortest and fastest way to our destination.

We need to rely more on GPS.

Not the Global Positioning System, but the “God Positioning System”.

We don't know all of the roads. We don't know the shortest route. We can't even see an overview of all of the territory.

If we just learn to depend upon the right kind of GPS, follow the directions, and relax along the way, it would make all of our journeys a lot smoother.

I am sitting here in the doctor's office now typing this issue on my laptop. The doctor has not come into the examination room yet. It's 10:55.
Puddin is getting antsy again.

I can almost hear God telling some of you now:

"Sit back and relax, not only will you get there, but you will get there early. This is a lesson in life. It is a little thing. Worry won't help. You don't have to drive, just relax,
I will get you there. If you don't learn to relax and trust me, I will pull over and leave you parked until you have faith enough."

You are not going in circles, though you often think that you are.
You will get there, though it may not be in the timing that you choose. You do need to close your eyes and relax while the right GPS system works.

As the doctor's lateness nears the 1-hour mark, I tell Puddin again as I tell you. . .

"This is a lesson in life. Sit back close your eyes and relax.

Happy Belated Birthday, Eunice!

This photo was taken yday at house of seafood! We celebrated Eunice's bday which was on the 16 Feb. :)
Eunice's actually from Wesley church and is leading the youth group there with another church member. However there's no cg there for her to attend hence she started attending our cg last yr after Patrick invited her.

I think I still don't know her very well but am in the progress :) she's very initiative and has desire to grow in her relationship with God. She always Sends us information on bible study or seminars. Hope that I'll know her better this year and that we can encourage and spur one another on in our Chrisitian walk :)

Everything given to us

"Everything is given to us by God to glorify him" has been ringing in my head since the sermon this afternoon..today Ps Simon Eng preached on marriage. He mentioned the above sentence and it's stuck in my head since. Guess I am thinking whether I have glorify God with the many many things he has given to me. Time, relationships with people, career, skills, intelligence, character etc.. He has given me so much yet how have I been glorifying him wih these gifts that I've received?

Home sweet home + God's goodness

Thank God peanut is safely back in Lion City :) woots!

Wanna share a testimony! my boss approved my MC on 26 Dec which is not from our Company panel of doctors! Both my secretary and HR say my department dun allow cos my boss don't approve of it, they tell me I will have to take unpaid leave.

I prepared myself for the worst scenario (i.e. i have to take unpaid leave) before i went into her room. Explained the situation to her cos the panel doctor was not opened when I went that day which is a Sat so they only opened to 1pm and thank God she's in a good mood and say "not a problem. 没问题。" and signed on the MC to approve it. Thank God!

God is good :)

When I took the flight from KL to SG, while the plane was taking off, I realise how I take things for granted so easily. Like safety of the flight. Last time, I always prayed before the plane take off. After travelling for umpteen times, I would forget to pray for journey mercy and take it for granted that I'll be safe. I would think to myself "Surely I wun be so suay." but like the earthquake that took the people of Haiti by surprise and dismay, many things can happen. I must count my blessings.

I'm gg to CG later! woots can meet my brothers and sisters after so long! :)

TGIF

Today is the last day of the FM. She reviewed the JVs that I did and pointed out those with errors and explained to me why it is wrong. :) After the dramatic 2 days, I'm glad I got to learn new things. If she din treat me the harsh way, I might not have gained as much. I really appreciate her trying to teach me and wanting me to understand the concept and why I pass those journals and how to pass those journals.

Today we went to Glenmarie for Nasi Kandar during lunch. I love it!! It's really really really very nice. duno how to go. may go again next week with Dewi they all. maybe get the directions from them so that any KL ppl reading this blog can go try it for themselves! According to the Sales Manager, its featured as the no. 1 Nasi Kandar duno in KL or whole of M'sia. hahaha. Next week I will bring camera when we go there. Last week also tried a Nasi Kandar but this one nicer. there's another stall called Baiduri which sells very nice fried chicken. hahaha really nice food can be found in Malaysia! Ppl are oso warm and some of them are very funny ppl. makes working here enjoyable even though sometimes i cannot understand their language. haha. when I have chance I take photo of the lovely and humorous ppl and upload here :)

Depend on God, not on myself

Woke up with fear and reluctance to go to work. Afraid of the harsh tone that I may face. Afraid that I cannot cope with the expectation and work. Was about to leave my room when I remember Mom and Dad kept telling me to pray before I leave the hotel. I put down my stuff and came before God asking for his strength to go through this, for wisdom to understand my work, for forgiveness for relying on my own strength and not walking close to Him, for forgiving the FM for hurting my with her words and that her attitude towards me will soften.

Praise God that there was really a change in her attitude towards me! cos one colleague treated many of us for lunch cos his birthday and also for her farewell. Through the lunch, we started to converse like last week, when she talked to me like a friend. so happy. the lunch was good and the chicken tasted great :D even after lunch when back to office, she was a bit stern but much better than yday :)

I also began to understand my work better and enjoy it :) even though have to OT till ard 9. i tink its worth it :) Really thank God for answering my prayers!

At night, told Mom and Dad not to worry about me and shared with Mom the answered prayer. God is really good to me :)

Worse day of 2010 so far

Today is is my worse day since 2010 started. I cried many times today at different times of the day. cos i really cannot take the harsh tone and hosility of the person and the stress of closign the accounts by my own without her help. I felt helpless cos i really duno a lot regarding accounting. I felt bad that I kept forgetting things. I felt bad that I disappoint her. I felt useless. I felt worse when i cannot control my tears. I cried in front of 2 guys while trying to stuff my lunch into my mouth. When I went to parts department to look for Dewi to return her the lunch money my eyes were red. so obvious that i cried. I felt upset.

At nite, called home to pour my woes to my Mom. hahaha. Really thank God that I have such wonderful parents who cares about me and loves me even though I'm a big girl now. I was like a baby, crying and pouring out my woes through the phone, blow my nose and continue to cry. I'm really glad she listened patiently and comforted me asking me to pray and ask God for stength and not to take her words to heart. My Dad also encouraged me in a surprising way! He told me to pray the Lord's prayer. He told me I had given him a birthday card with the Lord's prayer (in Chinese) on it and he has memorised it as he has been repeating it when he goes to work! hahaha. (I cant even remember I wrote him a birthday card) and he read every line to me and tried to explained to me what it means and try to encouraged me with the prayer. I'm really amazed by my Dad and really grateful. I'm even more amazed by how God has worked in my Dad's heart. My Mom and Dad asked me to pray before I go to work every day and ask for God to help me and strength me.

After the conversation, I felt really comforted and assured by God. Even though I'm going through tough times, my heart is delighted with my Dad's response and I really pray that his heart will continue to soften towards God and one day accept Him into his life.

KL ger

I'm in KL for 1 week now... I'm already missing home like crazy. miss my frenz, my family, my familiar Singapore. although the people are warm and friendly here, i still cant help but miss home. Last week was enjoyable...relax...very relax. The person handing over to me was nice to me and taught me patiently. But today she became fierce. she feels I'm not up to it. The way i keep forgeting things. I'm so stressed whenever she asks me a question. its always sometin i forget. my assignment is not as easy as it looks after all. I lose confidence in myself whenever i face situations like that. I feel that I'm not good enough. slow in learning. keep forgeting and making mistakes which i shdn't make. Is she being hard on me or is it I'm too slow?

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

When I survey the wond'rous cross

On which the Prince of Glory died

My richest gain I count but loss

And pour contempt on all my pride

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,

Save in the death of Christ, my God;

All the vain things that charm me most

I sacrifice them to His blood

See from His head, His hands, His feet

Sorrow and love flow mingled down

Did e'er such love and sorrow meet

Or thorns compose so rich a crown

Were the whole realm of nature mine,

That were an off'ring far too small:

Love so amazing, so divine

Demands my soul, my life, my all

Demands my soul, my life, me all.

Soon by Brooke Fraser (HILLSONG UNITED 2009)

Love this song. Beautiful lyrics.

"Soon" - Hillsong United (Brooke Fraser)

Soon and very soon
My King is coming
Robed in righteousness
And crowned with love
When I see Him
I shall be made like Him
Soon and very soon

Soon and very soon
I'll be going To the place
He has prepared for me
There my sin erased
My shame forgotten
Soon and very soon

I will be with the One I love
With unveiled face I'll see Him
There my soul will be satisfied
Soon and very soon

Soon and very soon
See the procession
The angels and the elders
'Round the throne At His feet I
'll lay my crowns My worship
Soon and very soon

Though I have not seen Him
My heart knows Him well
Jesus Christ the Lamb
The Lord of heaven

Praise the Lord!

Yay! today Jestee came for caregroup! heh. quite some time since i met up with her and since she came for any church related event of some sorts. Thank God we were still able to chit chat like we used to. I miss the old days when we meet in office everyday. Nowadays its so hard to squeeze time. Time is definately something i will always lack. no wonder the people say 时间就是金钱. I think the discussion group today wasnt really as expected mainly cos the people are unfamiliar with each other. was expecting that there will be lots of questions and discussions. But i'm glad i got to know them better as we discussed our areas of struggle. But think i should have asked them what did they learn so that they can verbalise their learning points. yep, need to keep that in mind. :)

yay this sat i'm gg to batam for a spa retreat with sharon and lydia! WoohOooOooOOOoo! very excited and looking forward! gg to spend sharon's birthday in batam! heh!

a post that follows after the "sigh" post

my previous post said that i've a very heavy heart. but i didn't share why my heart was heavy and why i felt weak and inadequate. Actually its mainly cos the people i'm reaching out to weren't responsive to God and i feel very sad and burdened. I wished i can do more but yet I noe i cant change the hearts of people. But God is good and faithful as usual. and last tuesday i had an amazing encounter with God.

i've this colleague who goes faithfully to BSFf (bible study fellowship) but she is not a Christian. Since knowing that about her, i've tried to outreach to her and help her understand more about God. usually i just help her with her BSF homework and try to help her understand who God is. I've asked her before what is stopping her from receiving Jesus into her life on a few occasions. the first time she say she feels christianity like dun respect other religion. The 2nd time i asked her the 4 spiritual laws and at the 4th law (we need to individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know and experience God's love and plan for our lives) i asked her if she knows that she has to personally receive Christ, she say she dun mind. but another colleague showed up v soon and we din managed to finish our conversation! :/

In Jul 09, i started going for this BSF too at the same place she goes to.. and 3 weeks ago we went to BSF from office together. and we started toking about God in her life again. but at that time, her response was that she's very contented with her current life and our conversation stopped there cos we had to sing hymm and start BSF. After that nite, i was very discourage and felt very sad cos my finite mind tells me that if she cannot see the need for God, then its very hard for she to come to know Him.

Last tuesday i went home together with her from BSF and we talked about repentance. it led me to ask her some questions regarding her belief. it led to me trying to explain to her why we need to receive Christ and then she asked "how to receive?" my heart leaped! while i continued explaining, the train came. i told her if we board the train we may not be able to say the prayer and she took a step back! i was like wow!! then we went to a corner in Raffles place MRT station and i led her to say the sinners prayer. this is the first time i led someone to say the sinners prayer. i was filled with excitement! hahaha.

after tat we cont our journey bk home and she seems hungry to learn more abt God. have to continue to pray for her to grow up well in God! :) :)

i learnt alot about God through this testimony.
1) God is sovereign and is in control of every situation. Even though I'm limited, God is BIG.
2) Everything happens in God's timing and He's a faithful God! I have to learn to be patient and trust that God is working in the hearts of people whom i've committed to Him.
3) Conversion is God's responsibility. I only have to be faithful in sharing the gospel and inviting people to know God. many times i rely on my strength and skills in sharing to people. This time, i was kind of taken by surprise as i wasn't expecting to have an opportunity to share. Yet God used me (And I am super privileged that He did!) to reach out to her.
4) God is my encourager. this is really an encouragement to me cos i remember Sunday i was feeling down and burdened. God encouraged me to pray in the spirit more and allow Holy Spirit to intercede for the people i cared about. i did and prayed for my colleague when prompted by the Holy Spirit. God encouraged me with answered prayer and also power of the Holy Spirit. it also reminds me not to give up on my other frenz.

Hope u have been encouraged! God is faithful and sovereign! Praise God!

~ Christmas is in the air ~

Time flies... its already the 3rd week of December! :D omg... it feels like just yday that i reviewed my 2007 and set my 2008 new year resolutions.  wow.

December has always been my favourite month. not just because my birthday is in December but also cos Christmas is in Dec! :D i love Christmas. :) it's associated with snow, gifts, reindeers, santa claus and all the yummy cookies, goodies and log cakes. That was my perception until 4 Dec 2002 when i prayed the sinners prayer to receive Christ for the second time in my life.  Since then Christmas had a whole new meaning and purpose! :D  Christmas marks the birth of Christ, our Saviour.  Although he is God, he came in such a humble way for such a great purpose.  :D  This year, our district embarked on a fasting and prayer event from 1 Dec to 24 Dec, i've benefitted much from this fasting and prayer. :)

Just want to give thanks to God for the friends he have bought to our events :D  thank God that the one day trip to JB was great! We got to know Phylex better and Junyang enjoyed himself on the trip :) I got to talk to Lydia more since she came bk from her Berlin trip as well :) and got to have fun with Cuifen and Candida when we tried to fool around. haha. I pray and trust God that the event we having later will be a great success as well and tat the meaning of Christmas can be communicated effectively!

Some prayers that God answered through this F&P.

My ex-colleague wanted to join my cg for 24th Christmas Service! :D she initiated to come join us as i was about to ask her to join us for service! Praise God.. have been praying that God will continue to keep her close to him. :) trust that God will take care of her and I hope we can grow and serve God together :)

My Dad agreed to go for Mandarin Christmas Service at my Mom's invitation! He said Okay lah, I'll take leave on that day.  Both Mom and I were amazed! I thought he will say that he cannot take leave since its a public holiday eve u know. and PH eve usually lots of ppl go do foot reflex one. God is amazing!

I must continue to preserve in prayer for them.. :) it pays to be persistent with God! Hallelujah!
